Q: 1999 dodge ram turbo diesel conversion?
I have an 1999 dodge ram 2500 with 5.9L and i was wondering is it possible to put an cummins 12 valve motor in it? Also would i need an entire new drivetrain from and turbo diesel. I have about 5 years of automotive experience and have done many of swaps before but all on imports. I'm not worried about fabricating also just want to know is it possible to do this swap?

A: yes you can because i have done it before but you,ll need a parts truck to use for parts, because you need everything off the diesel truck to make it work and you cant always rely on finding the parts through a local salvage yard, you have to literally gut the truck and start over with it,and the cost is going to be real high once you get in to doing it,it cost my neighbor around 4 grand to do one and he swore he,d never do another one,and that was with me doing the labor free of charge,if you can find all the needed parts you,ll have about 4 grand in to it by the time your done with it,good luck.

Q: 1999 dodge ram 1500 360 cid valve knocks?
I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with a 360 cid engine. it has some bad valve knocking when i use low octain gas. if I put octain booster in it the knocking goes away. What can I do to fix this?

A: go to a higher octain gas

Q: I have a 1999 Dodge ram with a 5.2 litre motor. When I start it there is a knocking sound.?
It sounds like it's in the lower end of the motor. What could cause this and would it be expensive to fix. Thanks

A: it could be rod or a crank knock either one,if you can narrow it down a little better that would help some, this could also be a timing chain getting ready to let go,i have even heard oil pumps make a slight knocking noise on this trucks, there's no way to figure how much it will cost though until you figure out whats actually causing this too happen,we cant hear it or see it only guess at it,good luck.

Q: Why my car is dyeing? 1999 Dodge Ram. please help?
I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 series. I have to give it gas or else it will die on me. Can anybody tell me what's going on, or what should i do?

A: My 1998 Dakota was doing this the other day. It sounds like an airflow problem. Loss of air can cause the problems with the throttle and the idle, which will cause the truck not to stay started. You'll need to take it to a mechanic and have them look over the airflow, throttle and how your idle is currently set. A single bolt in my Airflow unit had come loose a bit and the idle was low, so when I'd left off the gas, the engine would die. Had it looked at, and haven't had any problems since.

Q: Why is my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 so expensive to insure?
I'm paying (my premium) $140 a month... gas isn't pretty either.

A: WOW you must be a young driver with a few tickets under the belt as well..... I only pay $600 a year and that's for 4 vehicles, I guess it depends on where you live, your age, and who your Ins carrier is...

Q: Does anyone know how to remove the bed of a 1999 dodge ram pickup?

A: 8 bolts that bolt the bed to the frame of the truck. Gas fill tube has 3 screws holding it to the bed. Make sure you take the cap off too, but not untill your just about to take the bed off. Also use caution when lifting the bed off even with the gas fill tube disconnected, because the lip of the fuel tube can get hung up. After the bed is fully removed put the gas cap back on first thing. There is also a ground wire that runs from the fill tube to the bed that needs to be disconnected. These should be the only things that need to be disconnected form the gas tank. For the wiring... There should be a disconnect on the drivers side at the rear of the bed under the truck. That one disconnect should free the bed completely of all wiring, but always double check for ground wires, clips, etc. Also (it's been a little while since I took my bed off my Dodge), check the rear brake lines. There might be a clamp that attaches the bed to the brake lines. Also remember if the truck has any after market things like lights, CB antenna, trailer wiring, etc. you should keep an eye out for these things because they may be connected between the bed and the truck itself. Good Luck

it is a cobra 29 ltd and im not sure how to wire it in.

A: the red wire on the cb should have an inline fuse in it. just run it to the positive and the black to the closest ground n youre set. you just have to turn it on and off every time you get out but thats how most people do it.

Q: I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 magnum and i want to put a bigger motor?
i woul like to put either a 5.7 hemi or the 5.9 360 but i dont want to buy an new transmission will the transmission that is in it with the 5.2 work for either of thoses motors

A: Depending on your location and imspections you could have problems is the applicable requaltions are not followed. Here is a quote on CA: Engine conversions, according to California regulations, are to meet the following standards: “Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle: The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle The engine must be from the same type or family of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight. This is why a Jeep can use a truck/SUV donor engine, as well as a car (but not a medium or heavy-duty truck) engine If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine Catalytic Converters are not required to be installed on vehicles that did not come with them installed from the factory. However, OBDII donor vehicles have "post-cat" O2 sensors. These cannot be omitted. Without the catalytic converter the PCM will throw a code, thus creating an issue with the conversion. So, although the CATs themselves are not required, if the donor vehicle is OBDII, then by proxy, they are required The evaporative cannister (charcoal cannister) and its purge valve must be operational. The fuel tank pressure sender (a newer feature, since 2003) must also be used on the vehicle if it originally came with it After an engine change, vehicles must first be inspected by a state referee station. The vehicle will be inspected to ensure that all the equipment required is in place, and the vehicle will be emissions tested subject to the specifications of the installed engine.

Q: Does the my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L Intake Manifold need to be so big?
I'm looking for an aftermarket intake manifold, and everything I find doesn't have the plenum space that the stock one does. Is there a reason for the stock one being so big? And does it matter that the aftermarket ones aren't?

A: changing from a stock intake could make your computer do funny things because the manifold pressure changes.

Q: 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with 70,000 miles - thinking of purchasing?
I'm thinking of purchasing a 1999 Dodge Ram with 70k miles. It's an automatic. It looks well taken care of, and runs good. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these trucks, either good or bad?

A: I have two uncles with one, I had one for a while and my father currently has a 98 and has put 150000 on it since he got it in 02 and has never touched it. Is it a 318 motor or a 360? Both are great but the 318 is bullet proof, they will last 300000+ before it needs rebuilt, both have been around since the 50s I believe. It really depends on how much you are paying for it, anything less then 5 grand is worth it; Go to this site if you are in doubt, it is the biggest forum for dodge, I found it about a year ago and fell in love. http://dodgeforum.com/ Good luck on whatever you choose!! I also forgot to add, ask if the transmission has ever been rebuilt. They tend to last about 100000 or less, so the odds are it has been. After they are rebuilt with aftermarket seals and such they are pretty reliable. Good luck again!!

Q: where is the netruel saftey switch on a 1999 dodge ram and would this cause it not to start after replacing ta

A: the neutral safety switch should be located on the steering column or where the shifter is on that one, look down towards the bottom of the steering column, you,ll see it there with a bunch of wires connected to it,good luck.

Q: i have 1999 dodge ram 1500 and when i drive i hear a humming sound which elevates as i drive what is that?
the humming sounds higher as i drive faster and reduces as i slow down what could it be?

A: also check the wheel bearings in it they will cause one to have a low pitch humming sound sometimes and sound will travel on a truck so that makes it hard to locate sometimes, what you think might be on one side may turn out to be on the othe side of the truck, good luck.

Q: Can I upgrade my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 to carry more weight?

A: if you have a suspension shop near you, they can install whats called a helper spring to the main springs, and that will allow you to carry more weight,by adding one more spring to it you can haul an additional 500 pounds or more, depending on the strength of the spring they install, and this isn't very expensive to have done either, good luck with it.
