Q: What tail pipe should i put on my 2001 dodge ram to be louder and how?
anyone know any good sites for loud pipes? i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 V8. the pipe now is stock and works but i would like one that sounds a bit louder but is still good for the overall health of my vehicle without having to spend too much. I know a bit about mechanics and such but is there anything real complex on changing a tail pipe? and could i just modify my stock pipe to make it loud/still safe for the engine? thanks!

A: just changing the tail pipe isn't going to make it louder, you need to also change the muffler on it to add sound to it,that's where the sound comes from not the pipe on it,all th pipe does is direct the sound out to where you want it to go,good luck.

Q: when you change the wheel bearings on a 2001 dodge ram 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive truck , do you have to disassembl?
do you have to take off the brakes, to change the wheel bearings, on a 2001 dodge ram, 1/2 ton, 2 wd.

A: yes they have a hub type bearing in them and you replace the hub and bearing assembly as one piece deal, its an easy swap though,it takes less than 30 minutes a side to change those out,i can tell you the cost of them also, they cost around 200 a piece for good ones, you cant repack those bearings their a sealed bearing, good luck.

Q: My 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 318 ci is making clunking noises as I accelerate. Any ideas of what it could be?
I just got a new trans in it, and I don't have the money to take it in and get an inspection. I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

A: tell us what area its coming from on it where the sound is and more of what it sounds like, clunking noises can be anything from a bad u-joint to free play in the rear differential on it,good luck.

Q: what performance parts should i buy for my 2001 dodge ram 1500?
im not really into cars that much. but i wanna know what i need to buy to get my acceleration to increase, any suggestions?

A: if you just want to make a simple change to it ,do a gear swap on the differential unit that will help it out a lot on power, that and a good programmer will help it more than anything will right now, once you get a programmer on it then you might want to look in to getting a K&N air system on it,they help out some, good luck with it.

Q: Why is my 2001 dodge ram 5.2 318 not shifting from first to second?
when my dodge is going up hills it wont shift outta first into second. Sometimes it does shift on flat ground too.

A: Have you ever had the transmission serviced? Is the oil dirty? Do you have the right fluid in it? Chrysler has had some difficulty on some of the truck transmissions. See if there's been anything done with it and see if there has ever been a recall on it.

Q: I own a 2001 Dodge ram 5.2. And lately after I drive it for a long trip it will start to missfire.?
I have to drive it for atlest 45 minutes. The tempature reading never changes. But all the sudden it will start to misfire and start sliping then the check engine light will start flashing. (of course I always shut it off immediatly) But at that point it wont go anywhere if you touch the gas. If I give it about 5 min turned off and start it back up it will idle rough for a min and then do ok for about 5 miles or so. The codes it gives me are 0171 ,0300 0301, 0302,303. This just means it is running lean and it is missfireing. I recenty gave it a tune up so it isnt any of the ignition stuff. Maybe it is the fuel pump? Hmm I am not real sure and I dont want to just throwing parts at it.Oh ya its pretty old 180,000 miles!

A: my car did the same thing . all i did was put in fuel cleaner and change the fuel filter the next time i drove it was like nothing happen. but you should probably get the fuel pump looked at just in case.

Q: I have a 2001 Dodge Ram and the transmission will not shift to first gear unless I manually do it with the?
shifter and it also will not shift into overdrive. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

A: faulty torque converter - Take it to your local mechanic Repair will probably be expensive.

Q: I have a 2001 dodge ram truck stick shift 5.9 liter 1500 needs transmission?
can I put a different year dodge transmission in it?I heard I can use a dakota or a 98 99 dodge ram transmission and it is the same.

A: yeah but it has to be the v8 version

Q: i have a squeak on my 2001 dodge ram truck?
i bought a can of belt dressing to fix it, and at first it seemed to work. i first applied it yesterday right before youth group and drove around the block. it seemed to fix it. however when i left there was a slight squeak again. I went to apply some more belt dressing and the squeak level jumped incredibly. does anybody have any ideas as to whats causing it?

A: is it a short continues squeak or a long squeak. it could be a pully. thats what it was on my truck

Q: My 2001 dodge ram 1500 has problems starting up in the morning or after not being driven what is wrong ?

A: You don't say just what sort of problem it has starting, but my guess is, if it takes a long time cranking to start you probably have a weak fuel pump. If it is a case of the battery doesn't have enough power to start it after sitting, it may need a new battery. Without more information that is my best guesses.

Q: I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 and my power steering is gone.Fluid is fine,no leaks,and no bent tierods why?
After turning hard right thhis morning my power steering is not working. My fluid level is full and no leaks. The belt is tight and no squealing. My tierods are not bent and everything looks allright. Just turns hard now no matter which way I turn. Can the pump just go out that quick?

A: Turn engine off grab a hold of the power steering pulley and pull in and out and up in down you will probably find a broke shaft in the power steering pump (will be loose) pump will need rebuilt or replaced. I have found many of these broke. dodge chrysler jeep tech

Q: How big of tires can you fit on a stock 2001 dodge ram 1500 with the offroad package

A: The 2001 Rams came with small tires, I think that the biggest you can put on them is only like 265s. I have an 2007 Ram 1500, and it came with 275/60/20 tires on it, but I don't think they would fit yours.

Q: Well i i am the guy with the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel. I have put the pump in the tank and bled everything.?
Fuel is getting to the injectors, but it is not starting. Could there be a code on it preventing it from starting? or, what other reasons could there be? It was running fine until the lift pump went out. So what should the pressure of the fuel at the lines to the injectors be? i am beginning to think my injector pump is not sending enough pressurized fuel to injectors.

A: no ,if your getting fuel to the injectors and the fuel heater is working on it ,it should start right up and run,did you check the fuel heater on it to se if that was working or check the timing to see if its in time,if its out of time that will stop it from starting like that, did you time the pump when you put it on,because if not that may be whats causing it not to start, even though its getting fuel it may be getting it at the wrong time, good luck.

Q: 2001 dodge ram 1500 short bed fix it it buy a new?
was told the lifters may be going bad should i fix? has 140000 miles onit alot of highway miles.have replaced brakes,ox sensner, wiring harness and ball joint, should i get a new car?stop throwing my money away on this truck?

A: your at the right mileage for it to start giving problems, even though a new set of lifters aren't that much and labor isn't that bad, that decision would be up to you it would cost around 300 or better to get that one repaired as opposed the the cost of a new vehicle if it were mine i guess id repair it and drive it a year or two more, its up to you,if its still in really good shape fix it and drive it,its still cheaper than buying a new one right now, good luck with it.

Q: 2001 Dodge ram. How do i get the front axle out i have all the bolts pulled do i need a puller or what.?

A: If you trying to remove the hub & bearing assembly so that you can access the axle then yes there is a special puller that mounts to 4 of the lug studs and has a forcing screw that pushes on the axle itself to force the hub out of the knuckle. Although it's always better to use the right tool there is another way. Re-install the 4 bolts you removed from the hub (the ones that go in through the backside of the knuckle) but only install them about halfway so the stick out about 3/4 inch. Then use a good sized drift and a hammer to beat the bolt heads alternately forcing the hub out. WARNING; doing this will ruin the bolt heads and you will have to buy new ones from the dealer as they are a special bolt. Some parts stores have tool rental programs if you'd like to try that. If you want to buy the puller it's made by OTC and carried by any of the tool distributors in your area (Snap-on, MAC, MATCO etc.) About $125.00 if I remember correctly. Good luck!
