Q: My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 overheats every few months, what is the problem?
every few months it over heats , spoose out all the water/coolient, I refill and it is fine until the next episode. strange to me. I always use a water/ coolient mixture with the exception of yesterday cause I was in the mountains and didnt have anything, so i used stream water. could this be my thermostat? I notice it does get hotter the higher rpms. thanks in advance...oh and if it is the thermostat where is that located?
A: a thermostat usually either is good or bad, id try flushing it out and replacing the thermostat in it,and make sure you flush the block out real good on it,sometimes enough rust and debris will get built up in the block to cause temporary over heating on them,i did one a few weeks ago that i had to knock the freeze plugs out of the back of the engine to get all the rust and debris from it and after that it has ran good and cool like it should be doing,if its 4.7 its located on the bottom radiator hose just follow it up to the engine and you,ll see housing ,its in that housing,good luck with it.
Q: where are the spark plugs located on a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7L?
I don't know much about this engine so details will help me to find the spark plugs All help is appreciated.
A: their under the coils on it,and you have to remove them to get to the plugs in it,if your not sure on doing this buy a repair manual on it before you start to work on it,good luck.
Q: 2002 Dodge Ram rear running lamps dont work?
Headlight, and turn signals work. Fuses are good. Jumped the relay socket with test lights to power and grounded to chassis and the running lamps work. The relay does energize when i use the light switch on dash.
A: you got a bad relay ,you answered your own question by doing the test on it,replace that and make sure the ground wire is good for the relay and that should make them work again,good luck.
Q: 2002 dodge ram 1500 Problems with heat vents?
I turned it on heat and heat comes out 3 vents on the passenger side and the 2 vents on the driver side blow cold air what would it be?
A: lol, I got fooled on this problem just last week, pulled the whole dash out of a Ram thinking it was an airdoor problem. Its not, its actually just a plugged heater core, pull the two hoses off from under the hood and run a garden hose through it to clean it out, then refill. The way the vents are set up, it will cause that problem as strange as it sounds, like I said, it fooled me and I wasted about 6 hours pulling the dash. The complaint I had from the customer was the same as yours- one side had heat, the other was cold air

A: That code does mean that the PCM is having a programming info error and it could be from bad connections like the battery , alternator , fuse box , starter , engine block ground or a ground going to the PCM is faulty or a wire going to it etc.
One thing you could do is try resetting the comp but then you better have the proper security info to gain access to starting it again bec I do believe that yr of vehicle does have or can come with ignition , radio etc extra security and safety features.
Also there could be a 60 buck or so flash update or factory programming update that is required or there could be a factory recall issue here or a service bulletin issue so I'd contact a dealership and ask them to be sure.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way one sure test is to have the code cleared and see if it comes right back asap that mean the PCM is either picking up a valid code or it could be faulty and having problems processing correct programming proceeducers.
Another thing if going for a smog test it wouldn't pass with such a code , plus I'd change the oil filter and oil on it , keep the gas tank at least above half full or 3/4s , prebook the test then drive on the hwy for 10 to 50 mins or more and drive straight to the test local to get it tested asap.I'd change the gas filter too if I hadn't changed it on a yrly bassis in the past , plus check the air filter , plus do a basic tune up.
Q: Tail Lights won't work but everything else will on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab?
I have changed bulbs, fuses, checked connectors, found no power to the corresponding fuses in fuse box. I am stumped does anyone know what the problem could be?
A: take a 12 volt test light and check for power right at the light switch,and see what that tells you,then trace the wires back to the fuse panel,you may have a bad switch on it,its also possible you blown a fusible link for the power supply,good uck.

broke down in az and garage wants to charge 2800.00 to replace header and gasket on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.9
A: it doesn't cost no where near that much,find a local repair shop they will do it for a fraction of that cost,i only charge around 200 bucks for replacing an exhaust manifold,and that's counting the parts and labor,does it have after market headers or stock exhaust on it,either way that's a little high don't you think,good luck.
Q: I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 and when i accelerate it sounds like there is water under my dash flowing around.?
Its only when i accelerate from a stop i hear it squish back.it doesn't smell like water in my car or coolent so im not sure if its in the car or somewhere else.Im hoping for a fix i can do myself as money is tight these days...
A: that's caused by air being in the coolant system on that one,you can try bleeding the system out and remove all the air from it and see if that stops it from doing that,my truck did this for two days after changing a water pump on it,and finally i got all the air from it,then make sure its full of coolant once you remove all the air,usually they,ll hold about a quart more of coolant once all the air is removed from them,good luck.

A: check the fluid in it first,this may be the torque converter causing that to happen,other wise it may need to be checked by a transmission shop dodge transmissions did give some problems,so i wouldn't take any chances on doing any damage to it,most transmission shops will test drive one for free and give you their opinion on it,that's better than having it go out,good luck with it.
Q: 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, Speedometer has stopped working, and ABS light is on. Replaced both speed sensors, Ideas?
Just had the head gaskets replaced, do not think it is related but not sure. On OBD2 scanner says not reading speed sensors. Have cleared all codes and still not working.
A: the 2 sensors on the trans have nothing to do with the speedo or the abs. all they control is shifting. you need to replace the sensor on top of the rear differential.
Q: I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 that keeps blowing my brake light and low beam light on the driver side only.?
I'm not sure if the brakes lights is due to water getting in but the tail lights don't go off. The headlight did have the middle prong on the 3 prong connector the light plugs into burnt up.I replaced the connector in full and the light work for an hour but then blew agian.this only happen on the driver side lights.
A: sounds like an insulation short. check to see if any of the wires are worn thgough leading up to it,and look for binding and pinching you can also use di-electrical grese in the deutch connectors to exclde moisture. also wear nitrile gloves when installing lights because the oils from skin cause premature burnout of bulbs

A: check and see if both hoses on the heater core are getting hot if they aren't the heater core is clogged up in it,good luck.
Q: Eliminate rear O2 sensor on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7?
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7. I have Flowmaster exhaust, single in duel out. I want more sound and want to know if I can bypass the rear O2 sensor or just eliminate it totally. I dont know if this will mess the computer up or not. Tips or answers would be GREATLY appreciated. THANK YOU!
A: you cant by pass it or leave it off,it will cause computer problems on that one real bad,you,ll get a bad running condition also,no matter what this has to stay on and it has to be working,that's the one bad thing about computer controlled systems everything has to be working for the vehicle to run and perform right,you,ll have to leave that part of it alone,you can still add good sounding system to it though,it will just be behind the sensors,good luck with it.

Just when i start it untill it gets warm it knocks sounds alittle like a diesel is that the lifters?
