2003 Dodge Ram questions and answers
Take a look at this great lense about the 2003 Dodge Ram.
Q: how do you turn off a check engine light on a 2003 dodge ram hemi 1500?
i have to get my emissions done and need it off.
A: Pull ECM/SKIM fuse from under hood. Get in truck and turn key to on position but do not start. On my 2002 it is fuse 19 but yours may be different. It could also say ECM
Q: How much should I pay for a 2" spacer lift for a 2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab?
I'm getting a 2" spacer lift on my 2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab and my local provider gave me a $450 estimate including the spacer kit and the installation.
Does this sound over priced or about right? Should I keep looking?
A: That price seems about right. The 1500 quad cab spacers cost about 70 to 200 online, but that doesn't include installation.

A: That sounds about right. Actually a little cheaper than what it would cost in TN.
Q: Where is the cam angle sensor located on the engine of a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L engine?
A: Probably under the timing belt or chain cover, behind the drive gear. Not a Mo par man though. Just where most of them are located these days. Crankshaft sensors are usually down in the area of the bell housing near the flywheel. Get a schematic and trace it from your ECM to its location would be the best thing for you to do, once you know the color code. You could also ask the service manager at your local Dodge dealer what colors to look for if you don't want to spring for a manual containing schematics. One of those will cost you about a 100 dollar bill. But they are well worth that, if you are going to work on your own stuff and to prevent some shyster mechanic from burning you on a repair job.
Q: will an automatic transmission from a 2003 dodge ram fit a 1998 dodge ram truck?
A: it will fit but the wiring harness is different and they wont work right, try and find one under the year 2001 for it to work right, good luck.
Q: What size speakers come stock in both front and rear doors on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: crutchfield.com
this site will know for sure.
Q: Does anyone know where i can get a relativley cheap used supercharger for my 2003 dodge ram 1500 4.7L?
A: there are no cheap ones for that engine ,about the cheapest one you could probably get on it and get set up good would cost you around 4-5 grand and for that price you could easily go with a good hemi in that one,its just not a wise idea to go in that deep on money on an engine that's going to be limited as to what you can do to it,the 4.7 has its limits on horse power, and what it will take, good luck.
Q: where should i hook the amp ground wire on my 2003 dodge ram 1500?
i am on the second amp now that won't work, and i doubt they were defective? so i suspect a faulty ground? right now i have it hook to a large bolt that connects the seat to the body. do you really think i need to run all the way up front and hook it to the frame under the hood somewhere? any help would be appreciated! i really need that 12" sub to be thumping at my back if i can get it all working? lol! :o)
A: i have an 04 ram with 2 12's and one amp tht is grounded to the seat bolt tht connects the seat to the floor and it works fine. and its a painted surface on another painted surface check ur wires cheap wires always give problems. serously check ur wires before u start sandin cuz then u got an area tht looks like shit and a radio tht might still not work.

Q: 2003 dodge ram cummins hard to start?
it takes about 30 cranks for it to start and now it wont start in less you cycle the key about 15 to 20 times and it will start but it starts hard. the dodge shop is telling me that it has bad inj
A: Jacob is full of it! A Cummins doesn't have glow plugs, it uses a grid heater located in the intake air horn. Plus against the Powerstroke there is no comparison. This is not really what this question is about but look at it this way. In the Ford F-650 and F-750 lineup for many years the Powerstroke was the BASE engine. The 5.9 Cummins was an upgrade. Then there was a CAT 7.2L above that. Currently Ford doesn't even offer the Powerstroke in the F-650 and F-750 lineup. The new 6.7L Cummins is the base engine with the larger CAT being the upgrade.
One closing note, have you ever heard of a Powerstroke being swapped into a Dodge? I've not. But I have seen a bunch of Fords with a Cummins swapped into them. I know of at least two companies devoted just to putting a Cummins in a Ford.
Anyway to your question. It could be a lift pump problem like referenced by the first poster. However if it is do not get the Dodge in tank replacement. The cost of this pump vs its performance is just not worth it! If its your lift pump look into some aftermarket lift pumps like FASS, Airdog, Raptor or Glacier.
I personally run a Glacier lift pump and its super quiet, good for over 100 GPH and it runs right at 20 psi at idle and about 17.5~18 psi at WOT. My stock in tank pump (same pump as the Dodge in tank replacment pump) would make 8 psi at idle and drop to about 3~4 psi at WOT. My Glacier setup cost about $450 and the Dodge in tank replacement is $600 (according to the above post). So tell me which you would rather have?
An ok test for the lift pump is to slip a 2 liter bottle onto the water drain on the fuel filter canister. Open the drain and let it drain into the bottle. Get another empty bottle and slip it onto the drain and with the drain still open, bump the starter (don't try to start it). The lift pump should run for 25 or so seconds and should be able to fill the bottle up over half way.
Check the simple/cheap stuff first. Change your fuel filter too.
If you have a bad injector there are a few tell tale signs that you might be seeing. Hard start is one, you've got that.
But others that usually accompany the hard start are a bunch of white smoke at startup and increased oil levels (a very bad thing).
Both are caused by the injector not closing and dumping diesel unregulated into the cylinder when running and after the engine is cut off (until the rail drains).
If you need new injectors I would not go with Dodge. Go with Formula 1 diesel's injectors. http://www.f1diesel.com/
Consensus is that these are the best aftermarket injectors you can get. A set of Flux 1 injectors will give you a little more hp and will be much better than stock. The increase is about 40 hp.
It would also be a good idea to address your fuel filtration while your at it.
Originally the common rail Cummins engines were shipped from the factory with a 10 micron fuel filter. Starting in 2005 they switched to a 7 micron filter. All this is good except for the fact that Bosch specs 3 micron filtration for the common rail injection system.
I upgraded to a Glacier diesel 2 micron filter setup that places a spin on fuel filter under the intake air horn and filters the fuel after it passes through the stock filter.
AFE now has a 3 micron drop in filter that fits in the stock canister that will meet Bosch spec. The part number is 44-FF003 and its called the Pro Guard D2 Fuel Filter. Its about $20 but is certainly much better than the 7 micron unit you get from Fleetguard (Dodge)

They're just now coming out and should be a hot item.
In short if you replaced your lift pump with a better unit, got better (and slightly larger) injectors and run a good filter, you will have a little more hp and better reliability.
Have you cycled the key 3 times (with the drivers door closed), leaving key in the on position on the last cycle to check for codes? Do that and the codes present will flash onto the odometer.

Q: 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Idle and Stalling Problems, HELP!?
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 4.7L and it has began having problems with staying idle. The battery died yesterday and I was able to get a jump to make it home, but it kept wanting to stall when I would slow down or come to a stop. I removed the battery last night and have replaced it with a new one this afternoon, but after getting it started it is still having problems idling right. ANY HELP or Ideas would be welcome.
A: Everything Abraham F said plus, with the fact that your battery died and a jump got you home but then the battery was dead again.... Maybe your alternator is not putting out enough voltage to charge the battery. In which case, you'll be getting weak spark and the fuel will not want to ignite. Not to mention low voltage to the fuel pump, which means not enough fuel as well as low voltage to the injectors, which means again, not enough fuel. So, bottom line, bad alt. = low fuel pressure, bad air fuel mixture, weak spark, no idle. Could be anything Abraham F said too though.
Q: 2003 dodge ram headlight trouble please help?
My front lights will not both come on. If you turn the lights on,the left light comes on but the right does not. Now if i pull back and hold, as to flash highs then both lights come on. Now if you click the highs on then the left light goes off and the right light comes on. Brand new bulbs and even got a new dimmer switch but still is not working. Also same right side of vehicle. My rear turn signal will not flash and it has new bulbs , all on right side of truck wiring problem?????????
A: flasher, fuse or combo switch. Hopefully you are under warranty.
Q: I Have the same problem in my 2003 dodge ram 4.7L and I have gone through 5 cam sensors in the past 2 weeks?
Any reason why the Ram is burning out so many Cam sensors?
Truck turns off while in drive
A: it may not be the sensors that are actually going bad it may be the wiring causing this to happen, check that also, the wiring on some of the dodges is a little thin and can get a bare spot in it and causes sensors to go bad like that, good luck.
Q: 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Suspension?
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad 2wd that is lowered 2 inches with shackles in the rear so its leveled with the front.I want to add performance shocks what are the best 1s for this application?
A: I have always liked KYB shocks.
Q: I want to get new rims and tires for my 2003 dodge ram?
the rims i was looking at have a -12millimeter offset and a 4.5 backspacing? will that be bad for my truck?and will the tires stick out alot
A: When looking at buying rims with no background information, it is a good idea to reseach the dimensions of the wheels you already have. What is your stock offset?
Either that, or shop from a company who does alot of fitment and sizing research upfront. Check out Tirerack.com for some neat rim options for your truck.
