Q: how do you pop the hood open on a 1997 ford f150 pick up?
i am pulling the hood release and it is not working. is there a trick to it?

A: If you are pulling the hood release and it does not pop up an inch or two. The have someone pound on the front of the hood by the hood latch while you pull the cable from the inside. This usally works. Once open be sure to lube the latch to prevent from reoccuring.

Q: I have a 1997 Ford F150 truck & my gas guage doesnt register so i dont know how much gas i have in the tank?
My gas guage doesnt register how can i fix this myself?

A: usually the problem here is the fuel sending unit in the tank, in order to correct it you will have to replace the fuel pump module.

Q: How do I remove the dashboard in a 1997 ford F150?
I need to replace the heater core in my truck but I don't know how to remove the dashboard. Help?! My husband is trying to do it himself without knowing what he's doing!!!! Please answer asap! Where on fordtrucks.com do I look? I can't find anything there

A: Having put a dashboard back in place with my auto tech brother, it's not a one person job! I think you can find help at ford-trucks.com I'm not sure you have to pull the dash completely off, but you might need to wedge something in on the passenger side to clear the heater core enough to get to it and get it out.

Q: I have a 1997 ford f150, the other day it wouldn't start someone jumped the truck and now the power door locks?
are actting crazy.

A: Maybe youre battery is weak needs to be charged.

Q: My 1997 ford f150 wont start?
My 97 5.4L ford f150 will not start. The starter sounds fine, new fuel filter, and good fuel pressure. It acted up a few days earlier after it rained and it wouldnt fire up. Somehow it fired up and ran like a champ and started for the rest of the day. Then it rained again, and now its down for the count. Im not even certian if the rain played a part in this problem. Can anyone give me advice?

A: Check your -distriputor cap for moisture and make sure the rotary button is not wet -battery, was it cold and rainy? make sure the cca's are high enough and its still working properly.. -wires around your engine, if they are naked and exposed it could prevent it from cranking properly these are some resons why my vehicals had not started properly.. But rain will certainly play a big role.. my guess is something is wet that is not supposed to be.. you can wait until a dry hot day and try it again and it will tell you if rain is the cause..

Q: Do you need to switch transmission when you put a V8 in place of a V6 on a 1997 Ford F150?
I'm wanting to buy a V8 for my truck, only concerns I have are 1, will the transmission still work with the new engine or will I need a new transmission as well, and 2 will the gauges, computer, etc, etc, work with the new engine if professionally installed? Any other ideas or problems that could occur would be appreciated.

A: Unfortunately, Ford likes to build their engines in "family" groupings. There are some interchanges that are possible with no, or minimal external changes. To go from a V6 to a V8 configuration will require changing the transmission, an under-hood electrical harness, replacement of the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Gauges are not usually a problem as long as the right sensors are used (analog vs. indicator lites) You would also be looking at radiator, motor mounts, exhaust, and air supply revisions.

Q: What/Where is the body ground on a 1997 ford f150?
I bought some license plate lights and it says that i need to hook the black wire up to the body ground and the red wire to the parking lights.

A: should be in back of engine and attacthed to fire wall should not be hard to spot if you think you are having body ground problems run your own yse a heavy gauge wire put it under a bolt somewhere on engine and under one somewher on the body.

Q: I have a 1997 Ford F150, the newer round body version, and my front driver side blinker and green arrow inside?
don't work , but the tail light blinker works, also i can still hear the blink its just that the front driver side blinker doesnt work and the green arrow indicator in the dash doesnt work, whats wrong?

A: Just replace the L-front signal lamp, or clean the contacts, if dirty. It shouldn't be the fuse unless you have separate ones for each lamp(doubt it). Also, make sure you have or don't have the ones on the side. Not sure on yours. Some cars have blinkers on the sides as well.

Q: Where can i find a fuse box diagram for a 1997 ford f150 xlt?
I just got a 97 f150 and the drivers side window stopped working, i thought it might have been a blown fuse, but now no it was the motor. i changed a few fuses that were bad, but messed up somewhere and my deck no longer works. anywhere where i can find a diagram and list of which fuses correspond to which sytem would be great

A: The owners manual is the only book that shows it the best, our Factory books just show where the circuits go to the number fuse, the owners has the best view of it all. Make sure that the fuses under the hood and under the dash are good with a test light, also the tiny fuses are easy to spread the terminals they go in.

Q: What color are the ignition wires on a 1997 Ford f150?
Trying to bypass an alarm because the remote broke. What color wires do I need to reconnect to get it to start.

A: The color all depends on if you are going to steal this vehicle or if you are going to install a remote starter. If you are a thief then it is the white one. If you screw up then you may activate the airbag crushing all of your organs where you sit. Do you believe in God???

Q: How do you reset the fuel pump reset switch on a 1997 Ford F150 with v/6?
Know where switch is but see no way to reset it

A: There is a red button on the top it is kind of hidden so it cant be accidentally reset, just push down and you will hear it click

Q: What would be a good exhaust system for a 1997 Ford F150 XLT 4.2L V6 engine?
I want it to be loud but to sound good too.

A: put on larger performance cats and replace the muffler with straight pipe....Hedman headers if you can afford them..
