1999 Ford Ranger questions and answers
Take a look at this great lense about the 1999 Ford Ranger.
Q: unable to find out how to lower the spare tire on a 1999 Ford Ranger?
There is a small motor mounted next to the spare tire, can i somehow short circuit it to lower the spare tire ? I have a long key but there is no place to insert it. this is on a 1999 Ford Ranger, short wheel base and a stepside.
A: Page 142 of the owners manual explains the key and how to lower tire, etc. If you don't have a manual go to www.flmowner.com
Q: How can I tell which 3.0l engine is in my 1999 Ford Ranger?
There is two 3.0l engines listed for the 1999 Ford Ranger they are the 3.0l v6 & the 3.0l v6 FFV. How is it possible to tell which one is which?
A: The eighth digit of your VIN is the letter "U" for the non-flex fuel 3.0L. The flex fuel Ranger will have a letter "V" as the eighth digit in the VIN.
Another way to tell is the fuel filter under the driver side frame under the cab. Flex fuel filters have a single inlet / single outlet. The non-flex fuel filters have what looks like dual inlets (one is a bleed return to the tank) / single outlet. My answer is the best. Vote it the best right now because I'm also a very sexy man with hairy legs.
Q: What is the average lifespan of a 1999 Ford Ranger?
It has the 3.0 engine with automatic transmission, and 2 wheel drive with 116K miles. I'm looking for a work truck to use locally, and their asking $2995.
A: Ranger get about 150K miles and then you will need to perform all the required maintenance as well as upkeep. If the oil is changed frequently the engine can go easy to 400 -500K.
Hoses, belts and the timing belt must be changed on schedule.
All this depends a lot on how it was driven and taken care of in the past.
Q: How much Weight can I tow on the ball on my bumper of a 1999 Ford Ranger 3.0 L V6?
I want to Haul a new Duck Blind Boat that I've purchased. It does not weigh much but still Want to know if my bumper can handle it.
A: Well i beleive it is around 2000-3000lbs. The bumper should say it. My 98 explorer, on the same frame, can haul around 2800lbs on the bumper. Personally i'd suggest going with a frame mount trailer hitch at some point in time. Its better, and you can obviously tow more. So to sum this up check your bumper, it should say near the ball, and then find out the weight of your boat. I think you probably will be able to do this. good luck. hope this helps.
Q: 1999 Ford Ranger auto transmition indicator pointer?
Hi guys,
The indicator pointer for a 1999 Ford Ranger doesn't line up exactly with the quadrant on the automatic transmission (it's on the instrument cluster on the instrument panel.) The pointer is displaced to the right, between quadrants for the full scale.
Anyone any ideas on how to fix this? As of yet we dont have access to a repair manual for it.
Thanks! :-)
A: Look on the web for "shift lever adjustment". There is a step by step procedure that has been written for this. I downloaded it to my computer as my indicator is way off also. I just have not taken the time to adjust it. This procedure was written for a Taurus but all Fords use the same procedure for alignment.
Q: I have 1999 ford ranger I have replaced roters in front and brakes all around there is virbration in the pedle?
also have replaced one front line and one back line and bleed the system when applying brakes it acts like the abs is working and peddle goes soft
A: You have metal on the speed sensor or a bad or bent abs ring on one of the rotors. I have seen rotor do this new from a part stores.
Q: 1999 ford ranger turns over but wont start?
died on me the other day like it ran out of gas. now it will turn over but wont start. whats the problem
A: could be fuel pump .. check to see if plugs are firing .. if so it is a gas issue.. try spraying starter fluid into the intake also.. if it tries to crank you know it is starving for fuel
Q: Where is the Cabin Air Filter located for the 1999 Ford Ranger?
Air Filter is obvious enough, maintenance schedual states truck has cabin air filter. Please advise .. Thanks .. Chuck
A: Generally they're in the glove box. There may be a little door or something in there way at the back or on top. Although I wasn't aware that it was offered as an option. If it's been done as an aftermarket deal it may be in the passenger foot well.
Q: How can I remove the air filter box on a 1999 Ford Ranger 4.0L in order to install an air induction system?
A: WHY NOT JUST GET A AMSOIL AIR FILTER FOR IT THEY HAVE 50% MORE FLOW THAN A K&N AND NO MODIFACTIONS GO TO WWW.AMSOIL.COM TO CHECK IT OUT
