2001 Ford F150 questions and answers

Take a look at this great lense about the 2001 Ford F150.

Q: 2001 Ford F150 - can I install a remote starter?
I own a 2001 Ford F150 XL Can I install a remote starter on this truck. Its a basic model, no power locks/windows. Also, want to install a cd player.

A: Remote starter will bypass the factory installed anti-theft system. All 2001 F-150's have a computer chip "transponder" in the key. Only the key that is programmed to the computer in the car can start the truck. If you have a remote starter installed, one would have to put a transponder near the ignition (usually electrical tape holding a programmed key in the steering column) so the remote will work. This will allow anyone to be able to bust the ignition and steal your vehicle. Some remote starts will kill the engine if someone tries to drive away without a key in the ignition.

Q: 2001 ford f150 warning chime is driving me crazy where is the buzzer so i can pull it out?
this is more than just deactivating the warning for the bell it is for everything else than make it beep. where is the GEM? in the fuse box?

A: It is located inside what is called a GEM module, It cannot be pulled out, but if you are ok working inside a printed circuit board then you can go inside and find a black round looking object the size of a quarter that has two prongs and use a soldering iron heat 1 prong and pull it out of the board leaving the other in. I have done this before takes a little electrical skill.

Q: How much to rebuild a transmission on a 2001 ford f150 2wd?
Having this done, don't have anything to compare the price to. The transmission is the smaller of the two for that year. Thanks.

A: From my experience it will cost between two and four thousands. Just make sure that all seals are replaced. That is a big thing with many transmission places around my town. They have the tendency to not replace the seals.

Q: can a 8 ft bed be installed on a 2001 ford f150?it has 6ft bed now?
I like this truck.its a 2001 ford f150 xl,30000 miles on it and has 6 ft bed.i need an 8 ft bed.can it be done and for how much?

A: I doubt it. Ford F-150s come in six different wheelbases depending on whether or not it is a regular or extended cab and 2- or 4-wheel drive. If it's a short-bed truck the frame is not long enough to support an 8-foot bed and the wheel wells will not line up.

Q: What is the proper procedure for dis-assembly for a 2001 ford f150 rear end?
Does the pin need to be removed , or the 2 "S" clips first?

A: I agree with Siverstang. You need to remove the diff. lock pin first. Push both of the axle shafts inward, and then remove the C-clips retaining the axle shafts, to enable removal.

Q: How difficult is it to replace a windshild wiper motor in a 2001 Ford F150?
also suggest websites that I can go to, to show me how to fix it. Thank you!!

A: go to a Ford forum and they will have somewhere in there step by step instructions, a Haynes repair manual would do the same and I recommend everyone in the world have one of those for their specific car. twenty bucks and will help save you thousands in repairs. As far as how difficult it is. On a scale of 1-10 one being changing an air filter, ten being a complete engine rebuild and swap into a car it doesn't belong in. I'd say it's about a 3.

Q: I have a 2001 ford f150 V6. I just put 32 inch tires on my truck. how can i improve my gas milege?
I used to get atleast 400 miles per tank. Now I only get about 300 miles per tank. I knew it was gonna hurt some on my gas milege, but not this much! What can I do?

A: First, make sure your speedometer was recalibrated properly to reflect the tire size change. two things killed you when you put big tires. A) the engine works harder in every gear at any speed to get the truck rolling. B) the car is taller, and the tires are wider and more exposed, increasing wind resistance. The first problem can be helped by changing the final drive gear. (again, don't forget to recalibrate the speedo). the second problem can't be helped, so I hope you enjoy the lifted look more than you enjoy 400 miles per tank.

Q: where is the vehicle speed sensor located on my 2001 ford f150?
I bought this truck from a man who at the time I didn't know was a crook. The odometer doesn't read and I was wondering if this may be the cause. Could he have unplugged this and caused that?

A: Its located on the rear of the transmission. If your speedometer is still working its not the speed sensor. The odometer blackout problem is a common failure in these trucks. If you are good with a solder gun there is a fix available.

Q: How to unlock seat belts in a 2001 ford f150 after a accident?

A: MOst seat belts are required by the manufacturer to be replaced after an accident / crash. They have an explosive charge to take up the slack when i na crash, so they are just like the air bags, one time use. The insuranc ecompany should pay for them, just as they pay for everything else to repair a crashed vehicle- IF you have a good insurance company. DO NOT reuse them, do NOT replace with belts and air bags from another crashed vehicle.

Q: What kind of gas Should i put on my 2001 ford F150?
I don't want to mess up the engine if someone can help me please!

A: Regular unleaded. It's all you can afford.

Q: how do you remove the antenna assembly on a 2001 ford f150?
I'm trying to straighten my antenna for my truck, because it got caught on a tree limb or something and it is now crooked. I cannot figure out how to remove the mount to straighten it. Any help would be appreciated.

A: I think there is a nut holding it on under the quarterpanel. I am not sure if there is a place to get to it but I think you need to loosen that nut.

Q: How do you replace rear disk brakes on a 2001 Ford F150?
It is a Harley Davidson F-150 and we need to replace the rear brakes but want to do it ourselves

A: Y E S

Q: How much should I expect to pay for breaks on a 2001 Ford F150. I am in California.?
I am in California, EastBay = Oakley, Brentwood area.

A: Have your boy friend or dad to call a couple of shops and get a ball park figure if you call or go by yourself the guy will replace every thing it is sad that when women come in by their self all they see is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ so if possible take your dad or boyfriend and tell therm you want a written price . don't take it to the first shop you stop at first of all is the truck safe if not do not drive it . if it is just squeaking you should be OK but if it is grinding or a wheel locks up when you apply the brakes DO NOT DRIVE IT have your boy friend or dad or someone who knows a little about cars . price will probably cost at least about a $100.00 up unless you can find a honest mechanic . also talk to your friends parents etc. you never know they might be able to do the job but you have to be sure they know what they are doing, hope this has helped if you have any other questions don't hesitate to contact me though yahoo GOOD LUCK
