Q: 2004 Ford F150 FX4 overdrive problem?
I replaced my tranny less than a year ago and took it back to the shop last week because it was slipping. Mech. said it was the valvebody assembly inside the tranny. He ended up replacing a broken spring inside the tranny and gave it back to me. The truck feels different and when placed in O/D I cannot notice any difference. Anyone know at what speeds my truck should shift into 2nd, 3rd?...2nd gear seems long to go into 3rd gear, making my engine feel sluggish. Could it have something to do with the parts that were replaced? 2004 Ford FX4 5.4L 95,000 miles
A: you should never use the tow haul feature on your truck unless you are doing so, the truck should always be in overdrive because you are going faster on the highways when you have no payload, when you are carrying a load and are using the tow/haul option then what it is doing is making the transmission wait longer to gain more speed before it shifts. when you are on the highway with a load and are accelerating the truck will shift prematurely and will start slowing down because there is too much weight where the tow option will make it wait.
my uncle ruined the transmission on his tundra by keeping it continuously on the tow/haul option
Q: 2004 ford F150 new style 2wheel drive strange noise when turning?
The truck makes a scrubing noise when turning right or left on acceleration sounds like right front or right side of truck maybe rear of truck hard to pinpoint doesnt do it all the time . front end tight driving me nuts. any feed back appreciated
A: What you are hearing is the back tires scrubbing because of the limited slip rear axle in your truck. Go to Autozone and have them print you Ford TSB 06-4-4 it will explain the problem and how to fix it. Fords solution is to replace the differential clutch packs but if it was mine I would get 2 bottles of limited slip additive and put it in the rear axle them drive it for a while and see if your problem gets better.
Q: bought 2004 ford f150 from a dealer, why does it whistle when the rpms are at and over 3000?
A: might also be a small hole in a vacuum line, but i would imagine it was something with the intake. did the previous owner by chance replace the air filter with a performance one? K&N or equivelant. because that may also make a whistle noise. but that would be normal

A: The 2004 F150 does not have a cabin air filter and is not designed to use one. There is only a dome shaped plastic cage under the passenger side cowl.
Q: 2004 Ford F150 transmission slips?
when I start the truck the overdrive is on the tranny is strong and shifts good up to overdrive then it slips. Turn the overdrive off and it runs fine. I am hoping for the best here. Something simple or Something Expensive?????? Oh There is 60,000 on milage
A: check the fluid level first if its low than their is your answer. check the level with the truck running. If the fluid is dark in color than that means that something in the tranny has failed and burnt the fluid. Even if your transmission fluid has 60,000 miles on it it should still be clear red. My mom had a 91 Toyota Camry and I changed the Transmission fluid on that car at 104,000 miles and the fluid was still clear red on the dip stick. I would bring the truck to a dealer to see if they can fix it the truck is still under warranty right?. If it is something serious than its not going to be cheap. My last bit of advice is that you should never put in any type of transmission additive they will only damage the transmission even more. Most of then will thin out the fluid.
Q: 2004 Ford F150 AUX plug location.?
I was told months ago that the F150's AUX jack was behind the radio. After pulling the dash apart I found that wasnt the case. COuld someone please tell me where the jack is located, so I can install my Sirius Radio.
A: Some had a plug that goes into the radio itself (It's a Ford specific plug), but no there is no customer tappable place for the aux on those years...
You will need the Ford Sirius Kit or a FM modulator for install

A: Same thing happened to me on my wifes 03 expedition.
You need a new window regulator , about $140.
Also a couple hours to install it.
You have to be fairly handy to understand/figure out how to take off the interior panel but I did mine myself.
