Q: Where do I start in upgrading the performance of my 1991 Honda Civic LX?
Its got a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine. I want to do an engine swap but i don't have the money for that quite yet. So how else can i make this car quicker without spending so much up front?
I wanted to spend less money than buying a newer car. I really just want to upgrade this and see what i can do. Maybe make it a project car or something to have fun with.
A: 100 lbs of wieght off of your car will roughly equal 0.1 second off your quarter mile time...its not that big of a gain. lets say ur car is 2000 pounds and has 105hp right now... shedding 100 pounds will only increase your hp:weight ratio from 1:19.05 to 1:18.1...on the other hand if you got a CAI that added even only 6 HP, you're going to have a ratio of 1:18.02. see how much weight loss it takes to get even close to a TINY gain in hp?
anyway, your 1.5L doesnt have much potential. one of the cheapest thing you can do that will get you results is get a cold air intake ($300-500), but that will only get you another 5-10 HP.on the other hand, you can find a used b18c1 motor for about 800 that will increase your HP to 160. or you could find a b18b1 motor for cheaper (600 max) that will get your HP to 140. theres a few more parts you have to get (ECU, wiring harness) but u can find both of those used for not too much.
if you want bang for buck: you'll have to do an engine swap.
Q: How to bleed the fuel line on a 1991 Honda Civic?
I recently ran out of gas while driving and now need to bleed to fuel line? Where is it located and how exactly is it done?
Thanks,
Sean
A: There is a bleeder screw located on the fuel filter. If your in front of your car, look to the right of your intake manifold (on the fire wall). You will see two black lines going to and from a black cylinder attached to your fire wall. That is your fuel filter. There should be a small bolt that is screwed into another bolt. If you unscrew that smaller bolt, that will allow you to release the pressure in your fuel line (aka bleeding it).
Q: How to refill ac fluid in 1991 Honda civic?
I need to refill the ac fluid in my car and I don't know how.
Thanks,
Sean
A: FYI adding refrigerant to a vehicles ac system is really simple. First you must know that a 91 Honda has an r-12 system. R-12 refrigerant is not sold to the public, you need a license to buy this product plus not sold at any auto parts stores. I recommend buying a retrofit kit, this kit will have everything you need to change from r-12 to r-134a. The process is like 20 min no longer then that.People will tell you no you can't to do or take it to a shop. Why take it to a shop and fix something you can do yourself. You don't know if you can do it till you try it.There is a web site that has a lot of helpful information about retrofit kits and the process along with videos to help you.good luck

Q: 1991 Honda Civic Specs; specifically hp ouput?
I am currently looking at purchasing a 1991 Honda Civic hatchback. It has a 1.5L engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. I was wondering the average fuel economy of the vehicle, and how much hp the engine generally puts out.
A: It has a D15B1 engine, the following are the engine specifications- Displacement: 1,493 cc ( 91.1 cu.in ) Bore and stroke: 75 mm x 84.5 mm Compression: 9.2:1 Power 70 whp ( 52.2 kw 71.0 ps ) 5,500 rpm Tourque: 83 ft.lbf Valvetrain: SOHC Fuel control OBD-O DPFI Head code: PM3 ECU code: PM9. A: Yes.
If its manual just turn it counterclockwise and it will unscrew.

Q: How to Remove Trim on 1991 Honda Civic?
My trim was broken after a theft. I want to replace it but wanna know if I can remove the trim from a used car without breaking the clasps. Is there a method (passenger side door)?
How can I take it off carefully though? The clasps are in the middle of the piece tight against the door.....
A: Most of that stuff is glued on - but if you are careful you can probably get it off in decent shape.
Even if the clasps break you can always just glue it onto your car with some epoxy or something.
Q: WHAT'S THE BIGGEST RIMS I CAN PUT ON A 1991 HONDA CIVIC LX?
I just bought a lx civic 1991 model with 150,000 miles for 800 i got a set of 17''s off my saturn and wanted to know if i can put these on?
A: If it's a 4-bolt Saturn wheel it will line up but the hub center will be too large for the Honda. This means you won't be able to center them properly and they will vibrate like mad above 60mph.
Tire size should be 205/40R17 XL 84 with any Speed Rating above H and inflated to 41 psi front and rear. The 17" tires have a smaller air chamber than the tires that came on your Honda so need considerable extra inflation to make up the difference in load carrying capacity.

Q: Are the front rotors on a 1991 Honda Civic pressed on or are they floating?
A: Floating, held on the hub by 2 phillip machine screws.
Q: i have a 1.5l 1991 honda civic and i was told there is a top speed limiter in the distributor, any tips?
can anyone tell me specifically how to get to it and get it off?
A: I would, but I don't want be blamed when your speeding down the highway and crash into a wall all because you want to remove the speed governor off of your STOCK D15B2 SOHC that's putting out 92 HP and about 70 WHP.
Seriously you don't need to remove your speed governor. From the looks of it I can tell your engine is stock and the stock internals cannot handle anything over 115 HP. Unless you want to spend money replacing your piston rings or better yet replacing your engine then DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
But if you really want to waste money and time then you need to chip your ECU or buy an aftermarket one.
Q: 1991 Honda civic dx valve replacement?
I think the valves in my honda are bent so I want to take a closer look. Is there a website I can go to that gives me step by step instructions to look and inspect the valves to see if they need replacing? Thanks
A: You're not going to see the valves without removing the cylinder head.If your timing belt broke-you have bent valves.Look online for a re-built cylinder head.
