Take a look at this great lense about the 1997 Honda Civic.

Q: why does my 1997 honda civic keep cutting out?
IT keeps cutting out, but it has yet to actually completely turn off. I just pull over, flick the engine off then back on, and it seems to be ok for a day or so. My friend thinks because its been raining a lot it could be an exposed wire just getting wet, or my distributor? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A: Check the following; 1. spark plugs 2. distributor 3. ignition coil 4. fuel pump 5. fuel filter 6. fuel pump relay Have these things check first. Hope this help!

Q: How do i remove a 1997 Honda Civic LX door panel?
The drivers side rear window is off track and i dont know how to remove the door panel in order to look at the mechanics AND i dont know what to do even when the door panel is off. and ideas help. Thanks!

A: yo ulook for screws on the door panel and remove them next you take a screw driver and pop the clips out slowly these clips hold the door panel on the door so becarful no to break them after that role your window up and down to see what is wrong and then do your best to fix the problem good luck for the door locks and window buttons there is a place where you just pry the buttons out of the door the whole panel it comes out of the arm rest and the other part is the lock part undo the screw and figure out how it comes off somtimes you might have to turn it side ways it is common sense really just try not to break it.

Q: I need step by step instructions on how to replace a blower motor on a 1997 honda civic ex.?
I'm not much of a mechanic so the more detailed the instructions are the better. I need more than "It's behind the glove box". Any info provided would be greatly appreciated.

A: Blower Unit Replacement NOTE: The blower motor, recirculatton control motor and blower resistor can be replaced without removing the blower unit. 1 Move the temperature control to "HOT." '96-98: Slide the temperature control fever. '99-00: Turn the ignition switch ON, then turn the temperature contol knob. Turn the ignition switch off. 2 Remove the glove box. 3 Remove the self-tapping screw and the passenger's dashboard lower cover. Remove the bolt, the nut and the knee bolster, then remove the five bolts and the glove box frame. Without Air Conditioning 4-a. Remove the wire harness from the heater duct, then remove the two self-tapping screws and the heater duct. With Air Conditioning 4'b. Remove the evaporator. 5 Disconnect the connectors from the blower motor, blower resistor ('96 - 98 models), power transistor ('99 - 00 models), blower motor high relay ('99 - 00 models) and recirculatlon control motor. Remove the wire harness clip from the recirculation control motor, and release the wire harness from the damp on the blower unit. Remove the two mounting bolts, the mounting nut and the blower unit 6 Install in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that there is no air leakage.

Q: How much should I expect to pay for a transmission rebuild? - 1997 Honda Civic LX (manual transmission)?
I'm just curious. What is a reasonable price for parts and labor? I forgot to mention that I am in NC. ... and yes, I have called a few places. I have never dealt with transmission problems before, so I'm doing my homework. :-)

A: You should search online for a reputable used/imported engine and transmission seller. Most will have at least a 3-6 month warranty. Your Civic uses a very basic and common Honda transmission (dime a dozen). You could probably get a quality used one shipped to you for $800ish or less. As for install, are there any tuner shops that modify Honda/Acura's in your area? I'm sure they would install and guarantee their work in writing for less than most auto shops. Another choice is a high school auto shop, they'll install it for free or very little money. Mechanics are business people, just like car salesman, and they always try to extract as much money as possible from the unkowing consumer. I don't care what anyone says, a rebuilt transmission is never as good as a lower mileage used one. I know know 3 people who've had a Honda/Acura transmissions rebuilt at significant cost (as you've been quoted) and they never shifted as good as the original. EDIT- Also, as your Civic is only worth about $4,000 +/-, it's not really cost effective to dump $3,000+ into it. EDIT #2- The guy below must not have read your description as a manual transmission doesn't have a torque converter. I took the liberty of getting a quote for you: The price for this transmission is $595, with NO core deposit required. It's from: http://risingsunengines.com/quote

Q: where can i find a full body kit for a 1997 honda civic?
i want to find a whole sale of a full body kit for a blue or white 1997 honda civic

Q: How do I change the rear motor mount in a 1997 Honda Civic... Is there any diagrams or anything online?

A: Probably if you look. Common sense tells ya to put a jack up to the bottom of the motor first.......................

Q: What can i do to upgrade my 1997 Honda Civic EX?
Ok, i just bought a 97 civic as commuter car to go back and fourth to work, but i also have a thing for speed and a nice look. Does anyone has suggestions on performance upgrades? if so can you give me a list and name of product. also im used to driving my large V-8 so id like to know what kind of cars i can expect to outrun in this 1.6 haha thank you

A: If you got a thing for speed your going to want to do a swap. Get rid of the sohc turd engine. I would go for either b18c, or a H22 swap. You will get a little speed and keep the gas mileage. You will spend as much upgrading the turd as you will spend on a good swap kit just to get a little extra hp. You'll also have room to grow. Good luck

Q: What is a rough estimate for how much a new paintjob for my 1997 Honda civic 4dr dx will cost me?
The car is in good condition and I love it. I just need to paint it green again because some of the spots like in the hood have faded away, and the paint has scraped off. Also on the top part and in the hood the paint has chipped off in a little spot. I want to paint it, but someone told me it would cost me around $500 is it true? I want it to be the same like right now, the same color, I just want the paint to look like from when it was first delivered from the factory. Shiny and NOOO scraped or chipped spots. Please Answer me.

A: for 500.00? well with paint any body always remember you get what you pay for. WE wouldn't touch your car for under 1,000.00. You have dents you can't see and dents you can see. For what type of job you want done will run 1,000-1,500.00. Never be cheap when it comes to paint. A good job should last well over a decade, with proper care. We always pitch the Genie autodry to our customers when they pick up their cars. We also encourage not to use towles or wipe the car at all. Towles make tiny scratches in the clear coat even chamos do. Invest in the Autodry after a paint job

Q: Will an Exhaust from a 2000 Acura Integra GSR 3-Door fit a 1997 Honda Civic EX Sedan?
The civic has an aftermarket 2.5" exhaust on it and it sounds like a pissed bee in a tin can. I want to put it back to stock and have searched for hours about the interchangeability of civic/integra parts. My car is a 4 door and I found an exhaust on CL from an 00 GSR he said make him an offer. So will it fit?

A: Idk how much of the exhaust youre getting from this guy... but the manifold wont work, the hangers will need to be removed and new ones welded on probably. This is a pic of a gsr exhaust replacement... http://www.corsportusa.com/store/catalog/images/94-99%20integra%20skunk2%20exhaust%20....jpg and this is your civic... https://www.upscaleautomotive.com/popup.aspx?src=images/product/large/22319_1_.jpg I would say that of any Honda exhaust, these would be the most interchangeable however I'm sure one is longer than the other so you're going to have it sit too far in or too far out. You need one for your car, not a stock gsr... why do you need a gsr's anyway? Find someone on a forum looking to get rid of their stock, plenty of ppl should have one laying around collecting dust. Or... your old one lol

Q: how do i re programme the central locking remote for my 1997 honda civic?
ive replaced the battery in the remote for the central locking, i know it needs to reprogrammed but dont know how to do it would be gratefull if anyone can help. thanks

A: 1. Close all doors and the trunk and sit in the driver's seat. 2. Insert and set the ignition key to the II position, the radio's clock will turn on. 3. Depress and HOLD the thin horizontal 'Program' button between the AM/FM and CD/Tape button on the right side of the radio until the clock display turns off. The doors will lock. The button is not marked and looks like a plastic separator between those two buttons. If you accidentially hit the AM/FM and CD/Tape buttons or release the Program button you will have to turn the key off and on again to start over. A small screwdriver or coin works fine. or this might work This procedure clears the transmitter codes and creates new ones, so you must program all remotes at the same time, even if one or more is already working. Enter the car, and close all doors. Each of the following steps must be completed within five seconds of completing the previous step. If you take longer or make a mistake, start the entire procedure over again. Insert the key into the ignition, and hold one remote in your left hand. Whenever the instructions say to press the LOCK button, you should press the lock button on the remote for about a second and then release it. Perform each of the following three steps in order, then repeat all three steps two more times, for a total of three times each: 1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, marked II. 2. Press the LOCK button. 3. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position, marked I. Do this three times! Next, turn the ignition switch to the ON position (II) for a fourth time. Press the LOCK button again. The door locks should now make a cycling sound, indicating that the system has entered Programming Mode. Press the LOCK button one more time to program this remote. If you have other remotes to program, press the LOCK button on each one in turn. The door locks should make the cycling sound after you press LOCK on each remote. You may program up to three remotes, and they must all be programmed within ten seconds of each other. Turn the ignition off and remove the key. The remotes are now programmed and may be tested. If you've got a trunk/hatch release, hold the button for this function for a few seconds. 4. Depress the lock or unlock button on each transmitter (while still holding the Program button) until you hear the doors lock or unlock for each transmitter. 5. Turn off and remove the key and the Remote Entry transmitters should work fine.

Q: My 1997 Honda Civic jerks while accelerating and even while using cruise control, what could this be?
The car drives fine but at times, when I release the accelerator and gently push it again, it jerks. It also does the same thing when the car is in cruise control. I know the car needs an idle sensor...could this be the reason my car is jerking? It's a manual transmission

A: could be transmission

Q: What is a reasonable cost for parts and labor to replace a CV axle on a 1997 Honda Civic?

Q: If I get a good deal on a 1997 Honda Civic, are parts hard to find?
I'm looking at a 1997 honda DX hatchback with 100K miles on it for for three grand - pictures look real clean inside, outside, under the hood.....I'm going to look at it tomorrow....but I was wondering, with a car that old, is it hard to get parts? are they expensive?

A: There's so many late 90s Civics out there that spare parts are commonplace.

Q: how do you remove lower dash on 1997 honda civic?
hi, im trying to remove the lower part of the dash/central console so i can install a new cigarette lighter with a light built into it. I found a few screws but cant seem to find anymore and it still wont pull off...any help?

A: hia mate, had the same problem. have you checked above it...(under the stereo), there is another screw there, you will need a and L shape screwdriver because it's very tricky, also at the (sides) back of the console there are two screws that attach to the dash itself. Undo them carefully and you should be ok. I unscrewed the whole dash console (aux/fans etc) in order to get a good view for the compartments.
