2002 Honda Civic

2002 Honda Civic questions and answers

Take a look at this great lense about the 2002 Honda Civic.

Q: How do you fix the passenger side window in 2002 honda civic?
It is stuck in the half nway down position.

A: the typical cause of that is a broken window regulator. the door panel will have to come off to replace the window regulator. honda dealers charge about $250 to replace it. you can typically pull up on the glass while you operate the switch to get the window up. you'll probably need to tape it in place once you do. there is an outside chance the problem is with the run channel and not with the regulator but is usually the window regulator that breaks. hope that helps

Q: which type of octane gas should i use on my 2002 honda civic?
i've been using regular 87 octane because i have no performance parts just stock.

A: Yea, use standard 87 octane. Its basically all the same, so your best off with the cheapest ;) Occasionally run a higher grade through it if you want too, just to clean out some sludge and what not.

Q: How do you install a front license plate on a 2002 Honda Civic?

A: If you didnt get a front mount license plate bracket, you can either go to a Honda dealership and try to buy one..... or suck up your pride and drill holes in your bumper. I would advise expending all resources attempting to local a license plate braket first.

Q: Can you get liability insurance on a 2002 Honda Civic?
Is that possible? What year can you not get it?

A: Help yourself - you can check your quotes in internet, for example here - autoinsurance.undonet.com

Q: What kind of oil should I use for my 2002 Honda Civic?
For the past 80k miles I've used 10w-30. It has 190k miles on it. Should I switch back to 5w? In the morning my car starts rough. What should I do? I really just need someone to ask a million questions to. I need my car to run smooth. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right things with it. So if you want you can i.m. me.... My screen name is tattoomynotes

A: Keep using the same oil you have been . Rough running has nothing to do with the oil weight. Sounds like it's due for some maintenance.

Q: 2002 Honda Civic - Grinding and Clicking Noise When I Brake?
I had my brakes inspected and replaced the pads a few months ago at a Honda Dealership. A few days later I noticed a rubbing & clicking noise every time I applied the brakes. It is more prevalent when I slowly come to a stop, and it sounds like it clicks each time the wheel rotates. I took it back to the Honda Dealer… they inspected the brakes again and resurfaced the rotors, but it still was making these noises. I still have a warranty on the car, so they then suggested replacing the hub and bearing. The noise went away for a few days, but then it started up again. They now say that the new bearings they installed are defective. Is it the bearings or is it something they are not checking?

A: It could be or CV joints.

Q: the gas meter on my 2002 honda civic coupe, since 2 days ago, kept reading full tank. why is that?
2002 honda civic coupe ex, gas meter always read full tank

A: your fuel bobber in your fuel housing is probably sticking. have you had any work done on your fuel housing. if so then that might be your problem or your wire connection might be loose.

Q: What can cause a metallic sounding rattle on the right front side of my 2002 Honda Civic?
For the past month on and off, I would hear a metallic like rattle on the right front side of my car. It tends to happen more when I am driving at a higher rate of speed and on bumpier or uneven pavement. It started out not happening as often & only for a very short time, but the past week it seems to be increasing in frequency & duration. I currently have just under 130,000 miles on my car. Any ideas of what may be wrong with my car, prior to me bringing it to the mechanic? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.....

A: Sorry, but a noise isn't something someone can tell you about without hearing it for theirself. I can however give you some guesses: Brake dust shield loose. Bearings Exhaust heat shield loose

Q: Why is my 2002 Honda Civic Ex Overheating?
Ok, the thermostat has been changed twice now and it still overheats. I have noticed that when the temperature gauge is almost to the top neither of the radiator fans are on. I did a direct connect from the battery to the fans and they both turn on. Could this be a sort of fan relay issue? If so, where is this located and is there a type of diagram that would show me? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

A: You need to replace either your coolant temp sender or the Cooling fan switch. Good luck and hope this helps.

Q: What can be causing my temperature gauge on my 2002 honda civic to rise?
Recently my temperature gauge on my car started to fluctuate. It would rise, so I would pull over and shut off my car for a min. or two and the guage would return to normal. There tends to be no other signs that my engine is overheating. It tends to rise when I am driving at a slow rate of speed (usually 35 & below). I brought it to the mechanic & they changed my thermostat which helped for a few weeks. Then it started doing it again. The mechanic isn't sure what it is, because he said the guage doesn't change for him. It doesn't always rise when I am driving slow, but I did notice that if I have my heat on, when my guage starts to rise, it starts to blow out cold air, instead of hot. This makes me think it is more than just a bad sensor issue. Any help/suggestions I can get is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

A: Blowing cold air when the gauge is reading high means you have a low coolant level, check it and add if you have too. One other thing to cause a high temp reading is your cooling fan isnt kicking on at the right tempature, this is controlled by a sensor.... of course....so you might need to get a new sensor. I would check your coolant level first. Also fill your overflow tank to the right level as well.

Q: How much is it to replace a head gasket on a 2002 Honda Civic?

A: actually if u do it urself u need new headbolts (for good measure $100) & a good metal headgasket $100 & misc crap $50, so lets say $300 total if you have the tools & do it urself, $800-1600 if you take it to a shop. gimme $500 & ill come lightly port the mofo & install/port match a header & your intake gasket & ull get 2-3 more mpg & 50 more hp :)

Q: My 2002 Honda civic slips out of 5th gear. Any ideas whats wrong with it?
when I'm coasting it stays in, as soon as i hit the gas it slips out. This only happens in 5th gear. It has 70,000 miles on it and i'm the original owner.

A: Either the shift linkage needs new bushings and or adjustment or inside your transmission your fifth gear synchro ring is worn out. If the transmission has been removed recently, most likely it is an adjustment. If it has never been out, maybe bushings. If it not one of the above two, then it is most likely the synchro.

Q: what is causing the problem when your malfunction indicator light comes on,in a honda 2002 civic?
after it came on,the car stalled, but moments later it started again and is running ok,but light is still on.

A: The computer in your car has detected a problem. You can go to your local auto store to borrow or buy an OnBoard Diagnostic scanner (OBD 2) to plug into your car underneath the driver's side dashboard to determine the error code(s) that is associated with your malfunction indicator light. Although your car can still run, there is a good possibility that a component(s) has failed that will reduce your fuel efficiency, reliability, or damage other components in your car if it is not repaired or replaced as soon as possible. The last time the emergency light came on for my civic, it indicated an issue with the ignition. It turned out that my distributor went bad and had to replace it so that my car would not randomly stall. After replacing, the indicator light automatically went away. Good luck!

Q: what is a good range for miles on a honda civic 2002?
i am looking for a used car...specifically any form of honda civic...and i wasondering what the miles should be on a 2002

A: The normal is anywhere between 12-15,000 miles per year regardless of car make. If your lucky like I was a few years ago, I found a 1990 Civic original owner and I bought it in 2003 for $2700. It had only 14,000 mile on it! Great find until my daughter hit a guard rail in W. Virginia coming home to Buffalo, NY. Anyway, my 2001 Civic I bought new in June of 2001 just turned 72,000. My 1997 Accord has 112,000 And I bought that used in 2008 with 108,000 on it. Still runs great. It's a HONDA!
